Everything you don't see

What makes an item a 'good product?' Critical issues can be transformed into strengths only by studying each case in depth. Behind every Eastpole project there is a skillful mix of listening, research, technical innovation, creativity and style. The work behind the scenes is the real secret to our ultimate success.

Each time that Eastpole has revolutionized technical clothing

Trial and error

One of the greatest innovations to have taken place in the world of ski apparel was the introduction of bi-stretch fabrics, which have made it possible to create sports garments with greater comfort and wearability. As often happens when something new is introduced to a sector, the solution to a problem creates a new one. So happened in the case when the first stretch ski jackets were being made. The classic linings, which were not elastic cancelled out the effect of the stretchy material causing breakage. Eastpole created a special design with elasticated lining, perfect for maximizing comfort and fit, enhancing the elastic qualities of the fabrics. It was a breakthrough innovation that has now become the standard for the entire industry.

From crisis to solution

Often, the best solution to an existing problem is the simplest. When developing a low-cost gym bag, Eastpole was able to solve the problem of load distribution by simply optimizing the shape of the handles. In fact, we discovered that using the same components (thickness and quality), the bags that lasted longer and that were more durable were those that had straps rotated at 45°.
A project for a new garment concentrates most of the resources in style development (shape, color and design), but that is the 'easy' part. A product improves by working on the critical issues that need solving. It's the unseen work that no one usually notices when a product does not present any problems.

With the end user in mind

Not all the best solutions come from the direct requests of manufacturing companies. One of the many strengths of the Eastpole design method is being the end user of many of the objects we produce. Actually using the products as they are intended to be used allows us to highlight the limitations and areas of improvement that are worth finding solutions for. At the beginning of the 2000s – anyone who went camping at that time will remember - the equipment was very heavy and bulky (in component production, solidity was preferred over portability). Some of Eastpole's first innovations, which were modifying shapes to allow for the use of smaller and lighter components, came to dictate industry standards. This has made it possible to significantly reduce the weight and bulk of camping tents, and to introduce new features that have changed the internal ventilation method, significantly improving air quality and reducing the problem of condensation.
